This sounds almost like an old Morning Sedition comedy sketch

The late and lamented Morning Sedition show (which intermittently lives on at WTF with Marc Maron featured a sketch which involves a caller named "Lawton Smalls", described as "Planet Bush correspondent." Lawton is portrayed by Kent Jones, who is currently seen in the last minute or two of The Rachel Maddow Show. The structure of the Lawton Smalls calls is that he spouts wingnut talking points, Marc Maron argues with him, he breaks down in tears and makes a confession, then coughs and goes right back to his talking points. It's funnier than it sounds; here's a sample of Lawton ranting about health care reform and swine flu from the equally late and lamented Break Room Live:

Another of my favorite segments was "Pendejo the Revolutionary", which poked fun at would-be revolutionaries in Che Guevara T-shirts. In a truly prescient sketch from May 2005, Tom Johnson as Pendejo renames his revolutionary group yet again -- to Tactical Elite And Battle Action Group. YOU do the acronym.

Last week there was a call to Michelangelo Signorile's radio show from "Jim from Oklahoma", who talked of his plan to overthrow the Obama Admininstration and "return this country to the way it was 400 years ago". At first this was horrifying, and Lee Fang at ThinkProgress sees it as a potential violent manifestation of the Glenn Beck doctrine. But the more I listened to it, the more I started thinking that this is a gag from someone who also used to listen to Morning Sedition. It's either a parody, or else Kent Jones and Tom Johnson were more spot-on four years ago than any of us realized. YOU decide:
