Why Democrats Lose

Well, John Edwards lost any chance he ever had at my support in 2008. Joe Biden never had it.

Yesterday, Edwards and Biden were falling all over themselves disavowing recent statements about Republicans by DNC Chair Howard Dean.

Yes, Dean does tend to shoot off at the mouth, to speak from the heart, without stopping to consider how the whores in the mainstream media are going to take whatever he says out of context (I'm talking to you, Tim Russert). On the other hand, those who DO stop to think about how the whores in the mainstream media are going to take what they say out of context end up being wussy weasels like, well, John Edwards and Howard Dean.

I can understand Joe Biden being a weasel. He's still in the Senate, and like John Kerry, working with Republicans is still more important to him than taking a stand. But John Edwards has no excuse, particularly after saying on Friday, "How about if we actually stand up and fight with passion for what we believe in?"

Democrats give a lot of lip service to fighting the good fight (see also: John Kerry), but when push comes to shove, they just don't have the stomach for it (see also: John Kerry). Political expediency is more important to today's Democrats than principle, and as long as they would rather delude themselves that they can come out ahead by playing nice with the likes of George W. Bush and Tom DeLay than stand up for the people they are supposed to represent, they are going to continue to lose.

John Aravosis has more on how our party insists on eating its own.
