Not that this will end the controversy, but....

...it looks like Terri Schiavo had an irreversible brain injury after all:

"Her brain was profoundly atrophied," Jon Thogmartin, medical examiner for Florida's Pinellas and Pasco counties, told a press conference. "There was massive neuronal loss, or death. This was irreversible."

He added that all evidence indicated that she could not have survived without a feeding tube.

In response to questions, Thogmartin said there was no evidence Schiavo suffered from abuse.

In addition, the report said no evidence existed that Michael Schiavo tried to hasten his wife's death via drugs or other substances as her parents had alleged.

This won't end the controversy. There will be accusations that Thogmartin was conspiring with Michael Schiavo or was paid to come up with this finding. There will be observations from people with absolutely no expertise whatsoever that the brain atrophy could have been avoided with therapy earlier on (never mind the therapy she DID receive). The fact of the matter is that Terri Schiavo is just too valuable as a martyr for the fundie wackjobs who can't decide which they fear more -- life or death -- to accept that she is simply a woman who had a catastrophic brain injury and now can finally rest in peace wherever one believes we go when we die.

UPDATE: Michael in NY and John Aravosis at Americablog have more...
