Not since Knut the polar bear cub was hand-raised by his human handler has an animal rescue captured the public imagination the way "Sam" the Koala has. Here's a reunion of firefighter David Tree with the koala he helped save:

The fires in Australia have claimed the lives of 180 people and possibly millions of animals.
