Jonathan Turley spoke with Keith Olbermann on Countdown tonight on how Dick Cheney has essentially admitted to committing war crimes, but of course if no one has the guts to prosecute, what difference does it make?
So we have an Administration that lied us into a war, authorized war crimes that have been illegal for decades, and ruined the economy. And because the press was so in love with the flight suit and the codpiece, they gave this bunch of criminals a free pass. And now Barack Obama has to pay:
During today's press conference, President-elect Baracj Obama brushed off a question from Chicago Tribune reporter John McCormick about the Blagojevich scandal, and what interaction any advisers had with the Illinois governor.
"I don't want you to waste your question," Obama said.
McCormick asked another Blago-related question, and Obama said he wouldn't confirm a report in the Tribune from this weekend. Obama also said that the U.S. attorney's office asked his team to withhold an internal review until next week.
After a few attempts, the reporter finally followed up by asking who had the better jump shot: Obama or incoming education secretary Arne Duncan?
The interaction with McCormick stood out from previous meetings with the press. And speaking about the exchange on MSNBC shortly after, NBC Washington bureau chief Mark Whitaker said that reporters have not been aggressive enough during Obama's post-election pressers.
"Our job is to hold him to account," Whitaker said, adding that he thinks "we're going to have to get tougher."
Newsweek's Jonathan Alter followed up: "We need the Sam Donaldsons of the world."
I take back everything nice I ever said about Jonathan Alter. He's a hack like the rest of them.
I don't know if this bunch just isn't comfortable with a black president, or if their corporate masters want to make sure that Democratic presidents are destroyed as quickly as possible, lest they do anything that might actually be constructive to anything other than corporate power. But it's clear that we are in for Clinton redux -- if we let them get away with it.
As always, Digby has more.
Funny how the press has forgotten what was cooking up in the Middle East while they were having the vapors over Bill Clinton getting a blow job. Now I guess we're going to hear demands for the next four years that Obama somehow prove a negative. It's "When did you stop beating your wife" hackery at its finest. Last time they did it they endangered national security. And here they go again. Because the Lords of Journalism have decided that while the world economy is collapsing and terrorists are still training in the Middle East, their most important job right now is to make sure that Barack Obama can't get a damn thing done for the next four years.
Heckuva job, media.
