Everyone's a critic

Now that the SuperBowl is over and we can check off the first benchmark on the way to spring and look forward to pitchers and catchers reporting to spring training in a little more than two weeks, it seems appropriate to link to this little goodie, which leftygrrrl found:

Tony LaRussa, the manager of the St. Louis Cardinals, has a blog. And here's the kicker: It's not a baseball blog, it seems to be mostly devoted to reviews of rock 'n' roll concerts, with some musings about spirituality and animal issues tossed in for good measure.

If there's anything weirder than finding out that Paul Hackett and Howard Dean are on MySpace, it's Tony LaRussa painting himself as Blogtopia's answer to Jon Pareles. It's one thing for a nobody like me to spend seven years writing movie reviews and now blogging; it's another for a Famous Person With Real Achievements to do the same thing, as if he were just some guy named Tony who likes to go to concerts.

It's odd that in our celebrity-obsessed culture, there's now this medium that makes ordinary people into minor celebrities, and celebrities into just plain folks.
