Uh, Les? The Daily Show is FAKE NEWS

The last thing CBS News needs right now is to add fuel to the idea that they can't tell fake news from real news. After all, that's FOX's job, to just Make Shit Up and call it news. But it seems that Leslie Moonves is running any idea that pops into his head, no matter how stupid, in an effort to either show he's cool or show that he has a clue.

Now, I adore Jon Stewart as much as any other left-of-center American. The Daily Show is the best thing on television, Lost and Carnevale notwithstanding. And Jon Stewart is the best thing about it. But even Stewart himself knows, and he persists in shouting it from the rooftops in the hope that clueless news folk will believe him, that his show is fake news...it's not journalism.

Obviously Moonves has carrots in his ears, because he ain't getting the message:

Mr. Moonves said he was looking to install something more "cutting edge" this time. As part of the overhaul he indicated he would even consider a role for Jon Stewart of Comedy Central's "Daily Show." Mr. Stewart has emerged as both a late-night comedy star and a biting commentator on the news.

[snip]

Mr. Moonves, who is also the a president of CBS's parent company, Viacom, noted that because Comedy Central is also owned by Viacom, Mr. Stewart is available for such consideration. "Jon Stewart is part of our company and we speak regularly about all sorts of different things," Mr. Moonves said.

And since Jon Stewart is signed through 2007, if Les Moonves wants him to be an evening news anchor, than by God he's going to be an evening news anchor.

Because who cares if the news is made-up shit anyway? We're too busy attaching more ribbon magnets to our SUVs anyway.
