Supporting the Veterans on Veterans Day

Conservatives love to give lip service to "supporting the troops." They put those stupid magnet ribbons on their cars, hang flags, and equate blind worship of the guy in Washington who's feeding American young people into a meat grinder for his own aggrandizement with supporting the troops.

I think those of us in the "loyal opposition" have an opportunity on this Veteran's Day to show who REALLY supports the troops. I've been sending care packages via USO whenever I have some spare bucks. Today, via a Kos diary, I found out that wounded veterans at Walter Reed Medical Center are in need of phone cards, because Our Republican Government, the one that gives thousands of dollars in tax cuts to themselves and their rich friends, won't even give the kids wounded in their misbegotten war a long distance calling allowance. Like everything else about Bush policy toward the wounded, it's a giant "fuck you" to the people who have served their cause.

Let's take this opportunity to show these guys and their families who really supports them. You can send prepaid phone cards in any denomination, even $5 cards, to:

Medical Family Assistance Center

Walter Reed Medical Center

6900 Georgia Avenue, NW

Building 2, Third Floor, Room 3E01

Washington, DC 20307-5001

You can also send holiday cards, letters, and greetings. You know as well as I do that experience tells us that these guys are going to be completely forgotten by the Bush Administration once they no longer serve a political purpose. Let's show them what REAL support is; that it's not just lip service from a bunch of chickenhawks.
