It all started Monday night, when David Shuster, subbing for Keith Olbermann, who was out at Shitty Field watching the Mets lose, managed to somehow sustain his customary tightass demeanor while presenting a segment titled "Teabag Mouthpieces":
Mr. Olbermann, sensing a potential Wally Pipp moment, was not to be outdone, and tonight presented some of the finest and funniest wordsmithing ever done for Countdown. Now pay very, very close attention:
Even the usually unflappable Richard Wolffe looked like he might bust a gut if you looked at him crosswise. Not since the infamous Rachel Maddow/Ana Marie Cox banter of last week have we seen this kind of elevation of shooting fish in a barrel into an art form.
But there's a bigger question here: What IS it with the wingnuts and all these veiled references to gay sex, anyway? Can it really be a coincidence that it's the "family values" crowd that's chosen the metaphor "teabagging", the acronym "2M4M", and whose rallies are being underwritten by a guy named Dick Armey? I mean, seriously. Who did Faux Noise hire to comes up with this stunt, anyway? Darren Star?
